How to keep a long story coherent
All these tools read a limited window of recent text. Past that, the AI is guessing. Writers who finish long stories with AI tend to do four things:
- Keep a story bible. Ten lines: names, ages (all adults), places, relationships, what has happened so far. Paste it at the start of each session.
- Summarize each chapter in three sentences and add the summary to the bible. Perchance does a version of this automatically.
- Edit the AI’s text. Both chat apps and Perchance let you rewrite a reply; the model then follows your version, which is the fastest way to set the tone.
- One scene per session. Shorter sessions mean less drift.
A method for a chapter a night
Open with a scene prompt: where, when, who is present, what each character wants, and the mood. For example: “A rooftop bar in Chicago, late October, after closing. Mara, 34, a sommelier, and Theo, 38, the owner. She is quitting tomorrow and has not told him. Slow, tense, a little funny.” Then let the AI write the first beat, rewrite what you do not like, and push the next beat with one instruction at a time. If you get a refusal on a partner tool, it is usually the automated filter misreading something. Rephrase with clearer adult context (ages, consent, setting) rather than trying to trick it.
What is still off-limits
Uncensored text tools allow adult fiction between fictional adults. They do not allow sexual content involving minors, real people or non-consent framed as real, and they will close accounts that try. We follow the same line: no character under 21 in our examples, no real names. Our full content rules explain why.
